This is a gorgeous 14 karat yellow gold ring by Whitehouse Bothers. The major diamond is a European cut from circa 1930 weighing 1.31 carats. There are a couple of things to note about this ring. One is that unlike most European cut diamonds, this one is rather shallow. It is a bright stone full of life, and at over 7.2 mm in diameter it easily looks like a carat-and-a-half. We grade it at I color and SI-1 clarity, with some minor nicks noted. Secondly, Whitehouse Brothers die strike their mountings rather than casting them. A die struck piece is much more dense than a cast ring, leading to better durability. Whitehouse has been making quality jewelry since 1898, and many of their dies are the same original designs they have been producing for over a hundred years! The ring weighs 4.6 grams, and has a total diamond weight of 1.73 carats.
